RDA is an independent charity in Hong Kong. Our goal is to teach children and adults with disabilities to ride horses to the best of their ability. Riding is well known as a wonderful form of therapy. It helps build self-confidence, improves concentration, and teaches self-discipline, while providing a fun sport for our riders.

RDA was started in 1975 by Lady MacLehose, the wife of the Governor at that time. The Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) has been a key partner in our journey, being a major donor from the beginning. Our very first weekly sessions took place at HKJC’s Beas River Riding School, using HKJC horses and ponies to complement the two army mules that RDA was using at the time. This arrangement enabled our programme to expand rapidly.

Today, the RDA relies on the generosity of the whole community, while we are incredibly grateful to The Hong Kong Jockey Club for providing the use of its three public riding schools in Tuen Mun, Lei Yue Mun, and Pokfulam, as well as financial and veterinary support. Having celebrated our 50th anniversary in 2025, the RDA can look back on half a century of growth, during which it has grown from a small group of around 20 volunteers to around 100, and now owning around 25 ponies with operations spread across three riding schools. Continued support from The Hong Kong Jockey Club and its Charities Trust, as well as the community, remains vital.
Looking forward, RDA remains dedicated to sustaining and enhancing its services, ensuring that individuals with disabilities will continue to have life-changing opportunities to develop confidence, physical strength, and independence through equestrian activities.
